This trio of Nicaraguan fish are the most common large Central American Cichlids to make our list. A deep robust group of fish, all 3 are generalized predators feeding on insects, snails, aufwuchs and an occasional small fish. The smaller the aquarium the more aggressive these fish become. In large (300 to 600 gallons) tanks these fish are actually fairly peaceful. In less than 300 gallons watch out! Zaliosum is endemic to Lake Apoyo and is the most aggressive of the three.
